Since I do Connecticut research, which often crosses borders, as well as French translation, I often get questions about Canadian research. The question “is Canadian genealogy hard?” was posed at a class earlier this week.
The answer: it depends. Canadian records are fairly rich, but in some areas, they start much later than Connecticut records. Remember, Canada did not become independent from Great Britain until 1867. Canadian census records begin in 1851 and are public through 1921. Vital statistics dates vary by province.
