Have you ever thought about joining a lineage society? These societies have very different structures and goals. The Daughters of the American Revolution, for example, have a tiered structure – local societies report to the state society which reports to the national – which work together to encourage patriotism, historic preservation, and education. Yet, they have one thing in common: they require you to demonstrate lineal descent from an ancestor that meets their criteria to you.
A lineage society membership can be an amazing way to honor your ancestors in today’s world and to promote your personal beliefs. For example, a Society of Mayflower Descendants membership recognizes the labor of the families that arrived in Plymouth centuries ago. If you love history or genealogy, you can participate in their efforts to document the families of those first settlers.
Interested in lineage society membership and don’t know how to get started? I’d be glad to work with you on identifying an appropriate society and building an application.
