This question is a point of confusion for many lineage society applicants. The qualifying “bloodline” runs through a single spouse. Do you really need to document both?
The short answer: yes. This has actually changed within the last decade or so. Originally lineage societies were focused on just documenting the bloodline. Now, they’ve realized that they need records of both spouses to have a complete picture of the family.
In planning your application, it’s best to plan to document spouses. This means documentation of their birth, death, and marriage to the line carrier (the person descending in the bloodline). You may need to document additional marriages, but this typically done only to document name changes.
