Plan to avoid issues: sponsor signatures

One of the major roadblocks to submitting a lineage society application: sponsor signatures.

While it’s becoming less common, a few societies still require that sponsors sign the application. Coordinating signatures – especially if you’re not in the same place – can be a challenge and can slow down the submission process.

So, how do you stay ahead of issues?

  • Make sure you know what’s needed: At least one society requires the sponsor signature on paper copies. When you’re identifying a sponsor, discuss how best to get the paper copy to them.
  • Keep your sponsors in the loop: Make sure they know where you are in the process and when you’re getting close to finishing.
  • Figure out the logistics: Can the form be signed electronically? Does it need a paper signature?
  • If needed, ask the registrar for help: Sometimes the registrars can help with coordinating signatures.

The sponsor signatures shouldn’t be a roadblock to submission, but they do require extra planning!
