Although I don’t actually get posed this question by registrars, I’ve seen applicants struggle with the same issues over and over. If you have the ability, creating some sort of reference material can save a huge amount of time and stress. Here are some of the common things they need to know to be successful:
- What makes an ancestor qualifying? Is there an eligibility list or reference dates?
- What makes an applicant qualifying? Do they need to be a direct descendant or not? Are adoptees allowed to join?
- Does an applicant need an invitation?
- What does the application process typically look like (from the society’s point of view)? How much is required from the applicant? When?
- What are the application fees?
- What are the genealogy requirements? Are certain documents required?
- Are applications from other societies accepted?
- How much does the genealogy typically cost? Do you have any resources to help? Can you recommend genealogists?
